Odenton man attacked while walking with wife

September 04, 1996

An Odenton man walking with his wife Saturday was attacked by three men, one of them with a chain wrapped around his

hand, county police said yesterday.

Joel Melvyn Sanders, 53, of the 2100 block of Colonel Way in Odenton was treated at North Arundel Hospital for a cut on his forehead and was released.

Sanders' wife, whom police did not identify, said she and her husband were walking along the 2000 block of Charter Oaks Boulevard shortly before 8 p.m. when three men approached them.

She said one of the men raised his hand and that her husband fell to the ground, police said.

The attackers continued to walk along the sidewalk toward Route 175. An off-duty Baltimore County police officer, who also was walking on the street and had seen the attack, followed the assailants, police said. He told county police that one of the men had a dog chain wrapped around his hand.

Police did not have a detailed description of the men.
