Knights of Columbus Council plans season's first breakfast Sunday

THE ARCHBISHOP Keough Council, Knights of Columbus has scheduled its first public breakfast of the 1996-1997 season for 8 a.m. to noon Sunday in the council's home on Becknel in Odenton.

Orange juice, coffee, tea, eggs any style, omelets cooked to order, pancakes, ham, sausage, biscuits and gravy and toast will be on the menu.

The cost is $4 for adults and $2.50 for children 6 to 12.

The breakfasts will continue on the first Sunday of each month from October through June.

Odenton Heritage Society

The Odenton Heritage Society has scheduled a general membership meeting for 7 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Odenton library. Will Mumford will speak on "Merchant and Farm Tokens from Odenton and Surrounding Areas."

Mr. Mumford is a retired professor of engineering at Anne Arundel Community College and Chesapeake College.

He is past president of the Anne Arundel Historical Society and serves on the Odenton Heritage Society board of directors.

The public is invited to attend, and those attending are encouraged to bring tokens to share.

YWCA needs volunteers

The YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, which has two locations in West County, needs volunteers to serve in a variety of capacities.

Volunteers are needed to staff the YWCA Gift Shop and to participate in committees for the monthly flea markets, the indoor golf tournament fund-raiser scheduled for November, and the 1997 Bowl-a-Thon fund-raiser, planned for March.

Members also are needed for several committees and for the domestic violence program, career services and parenting services.

The YWCA is looking for teachers, mentors and group facilitators, along with people with computer, grant-writing, graphics and marketing skills.

The first volunteer orientation of the fall is scheduled for 7: 30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the YWCA Building, 1517 Richie Highway, Arnold.

Golf tournament Sept. 17

The West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a golf tournament Sept. 17 at the Walden Golf Club, 1500 Riedel Road in Crofton.

Registration begins at 8: 30 a.m. and a putting contest at 8: 45 a.m. The shotgun start is at 9: 30 a.m.

Entry fee is $85 per person and includes golf, beverages, lunch and giveaways. The lunch alone, which begins at 2 p.m., costs $12.

Nationwide Insurance is the corporate sponsor for the event, and Putting on the Ritz is the caterer.

Free chiropractic service by Odenton Chiropractic will be available to golfers after the tournament. Prizes include a golf club or free custom fitting. Reservations may be made by calling the chamber office at (410) 672-3422.
