Linthicum Arts Association lines up fall concert schedule

AS THE 1996-1997 season of the Performing Arts Association of Linthicum (PAAL) gets under way, announcements are made of the newly elected officers and the schedule of concerts.

Roy Pippen continues as president. New officers are Eloise Vaughan, first vice president, and Jerry Van Airsdale, corresponding secretary. Board members are Johanne Collin, Mary Johnson, Pat Lofft, Joan Maynard, Irene Newhouse and Jerry Schreiber.

Newly appointed committee chairmen are Jo Barker, publicity; John Wagner, hospitality; Nancy Gaston, patrons; Carol Lewis, ushers; and Pat Barrows, Celeste Riddle and Bill Skillman, budget.

The season opens at 8 p.m. Sept. 28 with Mac Frampton. The Naval Academy band appears in a free concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 2. Ballet Theatre of Annapolis presents "The Nutcracker" at 3 p.m. Nov. 24. The Chesapeake Youth Orchestra appears at 3 p.m. Jan. 26. And Helicon presents folk music from around the world at 8 p.m. March 22. Banjoist Buddy Wachter closes the season with a concert at 8 p.m. May 3.

All concerts will be at North County High School. The grounds are well-lighted, have plenty of parking and are accessible to the handicapped.

Season subscriptions are $23 for five concerts, plus the bonus concert. Mail a check to PAAL, P.O. Box 321, Linthicum Heights 21090. Tickets will be mailed to subscribers Sept. 9.

Herbs and pasta

Now is the time to use those fresh herbs that are in abundance in gardens. Which ones go well in pasta dishes will be the subject of the cooking demonstration at the Friendly Thyme Herb Club meeting at 10 a.m. Friday at the Ferndale Senior Center. The election of officers for next year also will be held.

Crime prevention talk

Officer Randall Gann of the Northern District police station will be the speaker at Thursday's monthly meeting of the American Association of Retired Persons, No. 2244, at St. John Lutheran Church.

The board of directors will meet at 11: 30 a.m. Members will have a brown bag lunch at noon. Gann will speak on crime prevention for the elderly starting at 1 p.m. The business meeting will follow.

Roadrunners picnic

Members of the Ferndale Roadrunners who plan to attend the club's annual picnic at Downs Park on Sept. 18 are asked to call for reservations. Bus transportation will be provided. Information: Pub Date: 9/01/96
