Samantha Whitmire, who was shot in the head Wednesday by her former boyfriend who then killed himself, died yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
Her former boyfriend, Torrone Queen, 23, of the 1000 block of Route 3, Gambrills, died Wednesday at North Arundel Hospital after he turned the .25-caliber handgun on himself in the parking lot of the Route 3 fast food restaurant where Whitmire worked.
County police found Whitmire, 21, and Queen lying in the parking lot of the Taco Bell Restaurant, also in the 1000 block of Route 3, about 11: 30 a.m.
Witnesses said Whitmire and Queen, who worked at Mama Ilardo's Pizza in the Crofton Metro grocery store, had argued in Taco Bell Wednesday, according to police. Queen left the Taco Bell and returned with the handgun.
Yesterday, police closed their investigation into the shooting, according to Cpl. Ronald Hines, police spokesman.
The Taco Bell was shut yesterday, and a sign on the door stated that it would remain closed until today "due to the tragic loss of our friend and colleague Samantha Whitmire and out of respect for Samantha's family and our employees."
Whitmire had worked at the restaurant since 1993.
She had been living with Queen in Glen Burnie until recently, according to police, but they did not know where she was living at the time of the shooting. Police listed Queen's address as that of his grandmother, Ethel Queen, in Gambrills. She said Wednesday that Whitmire had moved out of the couple's apartment about a week ago.
