A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of a man who robbed a NationsBank branch yesterday in the 9800 block of Broken Land Parkway.

The man entered the bank about 10 a.m. and handed a teller a note demanding money and implying that he had a weapon, said Sgt. Steven Keller, a Howard County police spokesman. Police would not discuss the contents of the note or confirm whether the suspect had a weapon.

The teller gave the man an undetermined amount of money, which included a dye pack that exploded as he ran into the woods near the bank's parking lot. The dye would have discolored the money and the man's skin, police said.

A Maryland State Police helicopter and a K-9 dog were unable to find the man, described as black, 5 feet 11 to 6 feet 1 inches tall, with a medium complexion, and wearing a bright red hat, a white shirt and dark pants.

The Maryland Association for Bank Security is offering the reward. Anyone with information is asked to call the Howard County Police Criminal Investigations Division at 313-2220.
