Fashionable dog day

Dog lovers, unite! It's a celebration of everything canine. As part of the third annual Dog Days of Summer at the Towson

Commons mall, a canine fashion show and parade will take place Saturday in the mall's lower level.

The event is open to the public, and at least 40 dogs are expected to strut their stuff down the runway and wow the crowd with their grace, personality and great get-ups. Cheer the canines as they make their grand entrance. Dogs need not be dressed to participate.

The Dog Days of Summer canine fashion show and parade is at the Towson Commons mall, 1 W. Pennsylvania Ave. in Towson. The show will take place in the lower-level rotunda at 6 p.m. on Saturday. All events are free for participants and spectators. Participants must register in advance by calling (410) 583-0110.

Collectors, bring your bifocals and get stamping. The stamp show you've been waiting for is here this weekend. With more than 4,000 album pages of valuable, rare, obscure and intriguing stamps and covers on display, 50 dealer booths to tempt you and even free stamps for the kids, Balpex '96 promises to be one for the stamp books.

The Baltimore Philatelic Society is sponsoring the stamp show, which will last all weekend at the Marriott Hunt Valley Inn. There will be activities for the kids and a display by the U.S. Postal Service.

Balpex '96 is at the Marriott Hunt Valley Inn in Hunt Valley, 245 Shawan Road off I-83 north. Expo hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $4 and can be used for all three days. For more information, call (410) 467-9260.
