Two people were killed Saturday in separate traffic accidents, county police said.

About 2 p.m., a man was driving west on St. Stephens Church Road near northbound Route 3 in Gambrills when he went through a stop sign and his 1994 Chevy Lumina collided with a 1987 Ford LTD, police said.

The two cars skidded across Route 3, hitting a 1995 Saturn and a tree, police said.

The driver of the Lumina, John E. Meyers of the 7800 block of Bagley Ave. in Baltimore, who would have turned 66 yesterday, was killed, police said.

James D. Walthall, 24, of the 100 block of Duval Lane in Edgewater, the driver of the Ford, was in stable condition yesterday at Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly, police said.

Tammy R. Dederick of the 200 block of D St. SW in Glen Burnie, the driver of the Saturn, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police said.

About 2: 30 a.m., a Shadyside man was killed when his car crashed into a utility pole on Deale Churchton Road near Churchton, police said.

The fallen power lines caused a minor collision between two other vehicles, which resulted in minor injuries to four teen-agers, police said.

Police said John C. Lorenzetti, 52, of the 4700 block of Idlewilde Road was traveling north on Deale Churchton Road just south of Franklin Manor Road when his 1991 Plymouth Sundance began to swerve, then spun and slid into a guardrail before hitting the utility pole.

Lorenzetti was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Downed power lines from the utility pole entangled a 1989 Honda Accord, which stopped abruptly and was rear-ended by a 1994 Ford Ranger moments later, police said.

In the Accord were Stephanie L. Kueber, 17, of the 1000 block of Baltimore Ave. in West River and Eric A. Herdeman, 19, of the 1200 block of Gwynne Ave. in Churchton, police said. In the Ranger were Churchton residents Charles A. Lott, Jr., 17, of the 1100 block of Gwynne Ave. and Byran Bosell, 16, of the 5600 block of Carroll St.
