A 17-year-old youth was killed yesterday morning in a West Baltimore shooting that police believe may be related to the slaying Wednesday of a Cherry Hill teen-ager.

Odell Nathaniel Smith was shot several times about 11: 30 a.m. in the 3500 block of W. Caton Ave. He was declared dead at the scene.

Yesterday evening, police arrested Clinton Carter, 16, of the 3500 block of W. Franklin St., and charged him with first-degree murder in Smith's death, according to Agent Ragina L. Cooper, a police spokeswoman.

Detectives are investigating a possible connection to the slaying of 16-year-old Arthur Quincy Samuel Wednesday morning in the 500 block of Wildwood Parkway, about 12 blocks from the site of yesterday's shooting.

Samuel, of the 1200 block of Slater Road in Cherry Hill, was shot in the chest as he rode his bicycle to work at a Catonsville nursing home.

"They are actively investigating a link between the two crimes," Cooper said.
