Restaurant, development group nominated for state awards

Westminster Historic District Commission has nominated Greater Westminster Development Corp. and Johansson's Dining House for 1996 Maryland Preservation awards.

Greater Westminster Development Corp. was nominated for an Educational Excellence Award for organizing the Westminster Business History Walking Tour, held April 27.

The self-guided tour included 11 downtown businesses and three buildings at Western Maryland College, exploring the architectural and business diversity of the area.

Johansson's was nominated for the rehabilitation of the Rosenstock-G. C. Murphy building that included keeping an original tin ceiling, creating four dining areas and an "English pub."

The Preservation Awards Program is administered by the Maryland Historical Trust. Winners will be announced in November.


Westminster: The owner of Grahams Service Center on Manchester Avenue reported a snowplow was stolen from outside his business Tuesday. The loss was estimated at $1,000.

Westminster: A Manchester resident told police a door was broken and property was stolen Monday from an apartment she owns on East Main Street. The loss was estimated at $150.
