August 23, 1996|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

The establishment of a nonprofit foundation for the Glen Meadows Retirement Community and its receipt of a $100,000 matching grant from the France and Merrick foundations were announced at a reception there last night.

Former Gov. William Donald Schaefer will be chairman of the Glen Meadows Foundation, working with the staff of the retirement community and its board chairman, William J. Middelton, to build the foundation's endowment and raise at least $100,000 to match the grant in the next 12 months.

Glen Meadows, located on 483 acres at 11630 Glen Arm Road in the Long Green Valley section of Baltimore County, consists of 114 patio homes, 101 apartments, 29 assisted-living suites and a 31-bed health care center. Foundation proceeds will be used primarily to establish a fund to cover the costs of living and care for residents who have exhausted their financial resources.
