Raven the chimp

The birthday girl is anxiously awaiting your visit. Join in the fun this weekend when the Baltimore Zoo celebrates the first birthday of baby chimpanzee Raven. Born in the zoo's very own Chimpanzee Forest last August, she and you will enjoy a weekend of activities planned in her honor.

Visit the zoo's African Village and Chimpanzee Forest and join the troop of seven chimpanzees in the birthday celebration. Be among the first 200 guests at the forest and receive a free cupcake. While in the village and forest, create a birthday card for Raven, get your face painted and enjoy African crafts, music and dancing. Then explore the "Ed-Zoo-cation Stations" and Rain Room.

The birthday celebration is from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Baltimore Zoo, Druid Hill Park. Admission is $7.50 for adults, $4 for children ages 2 to 15, and $4 for senior citizens. Call (410) 366-5466. Taste some fine wines and participate in a grape-stomping contest this weekend at the Fiore Wine, Jazz and Art Festival. The two-day event at the Fiore Winery includes tours, arts and crafts and music by the Karen Goldberg Trio on Saturday and the Rhumba Club on Sunday.

Receive a free commemorative wine glass and six wine samples with paid admission. Free gifts will be awarded in random drawings. Food concessions will be available Sunday.

The Fiore Winery is at 3026 Whiteford Road (Route 136) in Pylesville. Festival hours are 5 p.m. to 8: 30 p.m. Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $7 in advance or $8 at the gate. Children attend free with a paying adult. Call (410) 836-7605.
