Rasley captures Mid-Amateur

August 21, 1996

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. — A five-foot birdie putt on the 12th hole produced a two-shot swing, and David Rasley of Lakewood Country Club went on to shoot 76 for a 36-hole total of 149, and earn the 10th annual Mid-Amateur championship of the Maryland State Golf Association at Maryland Golf & Country Club yesterday.

Rasley, the 1990 winner, held off Henry Blue of Green Spring Valley Hunt Club, who finished 78151. The two had started the day tied after par-matching 73s the first day, and were tied for the lead after outgoing 2-over 39s.

A Rasley bogey dropped him one stroke off the pace at No. 10, but the pendulum swung the other way at the 193-yard 12th hole. Blue wound up 50 feet back left of the pin, and Rasley had it just right of the cup. Blue saw his downhill attempt run 12 feet past, and he missed coming back.
