Mariners update

The Mariners have won just four of their past 11, but they took three of four games from the Yankees in New York over the weekend. The Mariners finally are healthy. Ken Griffey has destroyed AL pitching since coming off the disabled list and has 38 homers and 105 RBIs. Ace Randy Johnson is back too, and is 5-0 with a 3.07 ERA, although he has pitched just 55 2/3 innings. Johnson won't be starting for a while, but he has been terrific in relief. Former Oriole Moyer has picked up the slack in the rotation, going 2-1 with a 2.67 ERA in four games since being acquired from Boston. The bullpen is not as dependable as last )) year because Norm Charlton has been blowing leads and carries a 4.86 ERA with 13 saves. Shortstop Alex Rodriguez is making a run at the AL MVP award. He leads the league with a .362 average, and is second in the AL with 110 runs and 41 doubles. Rodriguez also has 29 homers and 97 RBIs. Griffey, Edgar Martinez (.340, 22 HRs, 86 RBIs), Jay Buhner (36 homers, 114 RBIs) and Paul Sorrento (.302, 20 HRs, 72 RBIs) follow Rodriguez. The Mariners also have called up catcher Chris Widger, whom the Orioles have pursued in trade talks.
