Man charged with attempted burglary

August 20, 1996

Police arrested a Topeka, Kan., man Sunday on charges he tried to break into a Jessup home.

Jeffrey Scott Stonesifer, 24, was charged with attempted burglary.

Police went to a house in the 1900 block of Hilltop Road shortly before 3 a.m. after a burglar alarm sounded and found John Zisk on his front porch with a wooden club in his hand, arguing with another man.

Zisk told police the man had knocked on his door but before Zisk could answer, the man began kicking the back door, which set off the burglar alarm.

When the man returned to the front, a security light came on and Zisk confronted the man, police said.

The man told police he went to Zisk's house to use the telephone because his motorcycle had broken down. Police said they checked the motorcycle, which they found parked two doors away, and discovered it had been damaged but was not inoperable.
