Black & Decker Corp. is merging its power tools and accessories divisions into a single business unit that will be managed by a 16-year veteran of the company, officials said yesterday.

Joseph Galli, president for power tools and a company vice president, will become president for power tools and accessories for the Towson-based company. The move is intended to improve the marketing and product development of both types of products.

B&D also said James J. Roberts, former vice president and general manager for professional power tools in Europe, will work in that capacity for accessories in the United States. He will supervise the accessories business worldwide and report to Galli.

The move gives Galli responsibility for worldwide consumer and professional power tools and accessories, outdoor tools and product services.

"Joseph Galli has been instrumental in the successful development of our worldwide power tools business," Chairman and CEO Nolan D. Archibald said in a statement. "His many years of experience and solid knowledge of the industry make him ideally suited."
