I'm Reading. . .

August 18, 1996|By Brian Lamb

I read about a book a week, because of the show, ("Book Notes") but I make it a point not to recommend books. I will say what books interest me. I like strange books - ones that fill a gap in my knowledge. ... Right now, I'm reading "Radio Priest" (by Donald Warren). This is great during the campaign season. There's so much similarity with what we're hearing from politicians today - of course there isn't the same anti-semitism and racism now that there was then. It is interesting to see how the same messages play out in another era.

And "Einstein," by Dennis Brian. I didn't know anything about him, but he's my favorite statue in Washington. It turns out he had a fascinating life.

This program has been such a great learning experience for me. I have a great deal of admiration for the accomplishments of authors - the more I interview them, the more respect I have for what they do.
