APG research lab to upgrade computers

August 15, 1996|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

ABERDEEN -- The Army Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground will get a $169 million improvement of its high-performance computer system, the Pentagon announced.

The facility was one of four military laboratories chosen in 1993 to provide high-performance computing services to Defense Department scientists across the country, but budget cuts jeopardized funding for the project.

Rep. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr., a Republican whose Second District includes Harford County and who lobbied the Pentagon to maintain funding for the improvements, said they could create 40 jobs.
