A Baltimore man was arrested and charged with snatching purse from a woman in Ellicott City yesterday afternoon, police said.

Eddie Junior Goff, 33, of the 2600 block of Talbot St. in West Baltimore was charged with stealing the purse of a 66-year-old woman in the 3300 block of N. Chatham Road about 12: 15 p.m., said Sgt. Steven Keller, a Howard County police spokesman.

Goff was being held at Howard County police headquarters pending a bail hearing.

The woman's purse was taken by a man as she was getting out of her car at her home, police said.

The man fled east on U.S. 40 in a green Ford.

A witness followed the car and gave the license tag number to police.

Howard County police Maj. Mark Paterni, who was returning from a conference at the Johns Hopkins University, saw the car on Security Boulevard in Baltimore County, Keller said.

Paterni followed the vehicle into Baltimore and contacted city police. When city officers tried to stop the car, the driver sped away, Keller said.

The driver was arrested a few blocks away as he was leaving the car, Keller said.
