White Sox update

The Orioles trail the White Sox by three games in the American League wild-card race. The Orioles cannot afford to be swept, and they'll face three tough pitchers, all of whom have ERAs lower than those of any Orioles starter. The White Sox lead the AL with a 4.38 team ERA and 34 saves. Closer Roberto Hernandez, who inadvertently broke Cal Ripken's nose at the All-Star Game, has 31 saves in 37 opportunities with a 1.19 ERA. Former Orioles designated hitter Harold Baines is having another solid season, with a .305 average, 18 homers and 78 RBIs. Frank Thomas has recovered from the foot injury that landed him on the disabled list. Thomas is hitting .406 (13-for-32) with one homer and eight RBIs in 10 games since coming off the DL. The injury ended the second-longest consecutive-games streak in the majors, behind Cal Ripken, at 345 games. Third baseman Robin Ventura provides more pop in the lineup with 25 homers and 72 RBIs.
