Athletics: For the first time this season, Oakland has gone three straight games without a homer. Oakland's 183 homers lead the majors.

Angels: California was swept at home by the Twins in a three-game series for the first time since 1992.

Astros: Todd Jones, on the DL since June 19 with right shoulder tendinitis, will pitch tomorrow and Monday for Triple-A Tucson and is expected to rejoin the Astros in Philadelphia next week.

Expos: Since the All-Star break the Expos' bullpen has pitched 70 2/3 innings and allowed only 17 earned runs for a 2.17 ERA. . . . Montreal's Shane Andrews has 16 homers this season, all against right-handers.

Mariners: Norm Charlton, who blew his fourth save in a row Wednesday night, has been moved from the closer's role to middle relief. . . . Before the game, Seattle brought up Andy Sheets from Triple-A Tacoma to become its everyday third baseman after Jeff Manto made a key error at third in Seattle's 5-4 loss to the Indians Wednesday night.
