Police arrest 2 Shady Side men on drug charges, seize vehicle

August 09, 1996

Police arrested two Shady Side men Tuesday on drug charges and seized a 1995 Ford Explorer after they received a telephone call about disorderly men in a Churchton neighborhood.

Christopher Michael Blair, 19, of the 1200 block of Hawthorne St. and Matthew Vincent Butler, 18, of the 1100 block of Oak Ave. were charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police got a call shortly after 9 p.m. asking officers to check on three young men who were drinking beer in a park near Chesapeake Drive and Essex Street.

Police found two men inside the truck and one standing outside. Several empty beer cans were on the grass outside the driver's side of the truck, police said.

The men were ordered to get out of the truck, and an officer searched it. Police found a pipe and a bag of what later tested positive for marijuana in the pocket on the passenger side door.

Police arrested the men who were inside the truck but did not arrest the man who was outside. Bail information was not available.
