Kathy Franz of the Country Club of Maryland completed a wire-to-wire triumph with the low round for a second straight day, easily capturing the annual Women's Golf Association championship with a 73-77--150 at Bonnie View Country Club yesterday.

A birdie on the last hole left Franz six shots clear of runners-up Connie Pifer, Hunt Valley GC, 78-78--156, and six-time champion Bonnie Fry, Maryland G&CC, 78-78--156.

Franz, 1993 Maryland State Women's Amateur titlist, had opened a two-stroke lead over the 45-player field in Tuesday's opening round with a career best competitive score of 1-under-par 73. For the second round, she said she was playing for the middle of the greens and pars over the 5,440-yard course. She followed an initial four-birdie, three-bogey effort with two birdies, a bogey and two double bogeys yesterday.

The top three scorers were the only ones with rounds in the 70s. Defending champion Cindy Peterka, who started the second round two strokes back after a 75, ran into early trouble and struggled to an 85 yesterday. Young Ja Kim of Hobbit's Glen GC won her second seniors title of the season with an 81-82--163.

Earlier, she had claimed the Elkridge Seniors prize.
