Baltimore police are investigating three slayings that occurred Tuesday night and early yesterday, including a beating of an unidentified man in East Baltimore, authorities said yesterday.

The beating, which occurred about 2: 30 a.m. yesterday, started with a fight in the 2200 block of E. Biddle St. Police said the victim was beaten with a stick and a broken bottle, then dragged a half-block to North Collington Avenue.

Police spokeswoman Agent Ragina L. Cooper, said the victim then "was stomped in the stomach and the face." Residents called for help. The victim, whom police have not been able to identify, was pronounced dead on arrival at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

About 10 p.m. Tuesday, Elizabeth Jones, 64, was found in the doorway of her rowhouse in the 2100 block of Hollins St., with a gunshot wound in the left side of her chest, police said. She was pronounced dead at Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Earlier Tuesday night, a 22-year-old East Baltimore man was killed by a shotgun blast to the stomach in the 800 block of Lemmon St., in southern Baltimore. His name was not released pending notification of relatives.

Police said they knew of no suspects in the three slayings.
