On Monday at 1 p.m., Mojo Gentry's latest musical, "Journey to the Land of the Heroes," comes to Baltimore's Arena Players for a free performance.

The family musical, billed as a fantasy journey about peer pressure, role models and decision making, will be performed by the Arlington Youth Street Theater Company. Gentry, a producer, director, actor and writer, has recently returned to Baltimore to develop local youth theater programs.

Baltimore's Arena Players is at 801 McCulloh St. The performance is free. Call (410) 662-5948 for more information. The 51st Howard County Fair will be held from Saturdaythrough Aug. 17 at the West Friendship Fairgrounds. The fair will include amusement rides, midway games and musical performances, promising something for everyone.

The opening parade is Sundayat 2 p.m. Several other events are scheduled throughout the week, including a performance by the Glenelg High School Jazz Band on Saturday at 5 p.m., barrel races on Aug. 15 at 6 p.m., and daily appearances by Bobby Hill's Puppetone Rockers stage show.

To get to the fairgrounds, take I-70 west to Exit 80. Take Route 32 south to Route 144 west. Go 1/2 mile and turn right onto Fairgrounds Road. The fair is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday through Aug. 17. Call (410) 442-1022. Admission $3 for adults; $2 for seniors; children under 12 admitted free.
