Westminster teen to compete in state pageants on Saturday

Sherry Bowman, 13, has been accepted as a state finalist in the Miss Maryland American Co-ed and Teen pageants, to be held Friday and Saturday at the BWI Marriott Hotel.

The pageant stresses mental alertness, self-confidence, physical fitness and performance on stage. Contestants are scored on their interview with the judges and stage appearance.

The winner will receive a cash award and money toward expenses to the national competition in Florida and admission for two to Disney World.

Sherry is the daughter of Brian and Renee Bowman of Westminster.

Fire

Reese: Firefighters from Hampstead assisted Reese at 7: 10 p.m. Monday, responding to a house fire in the 800 block of Ridge Road. Units were out 39 minutes.

Westminster: Firefighters from Reese assisted Westminster at 7: 51 p.m. Monday, responding to a house fire in the 400 block of Browns Private Road. Units were out 27 minutes.

Pleasant Valley: Firefighters from Westminster assisted Pleasant Valley at 9: 27 a.m. Monday, responding to a fire alarm in the 1600 block of Indian Valley Trail. Units were out 10 minutes.

Police

Westminster: A resident of Robins Way told city police that someone stole two bicycles from the hallway of his residence sometime between July 31 and Aug. 1. The loss was estimated at $240.

Westminster: A resident of Long Valley Road told city police that someone got into her vehicle that was parked near her home and stole property sometime before 4: 25 p.m. Monday. The loss was estimated at $500.
