Hits and misses

On the field: Cleveland right fielder Manny Ramirez gunned down Brady Anderson as the Orioles' center fielder tried to stretch a single into a double in the fifth inning. It was Ramirez's second assist of the series and 14th of the season; he leads the AL, and tied the Chicago Cubs' Sammy Sosa for the major-league lead.

In the dugout: Cleveland manager Mike Hargrove used the same lineup just about every day last year. But with the addition of Mark Carreon, Jeff Kent, Jose Vizcaino and others, Hargrove has taken to changing his lineup regularly. Against left-hander David Wells, Vizcaino batted second, Carreon third and Kent was the designated hitter.

In the clubhouse: Orioles assistant general manager Kevin Malone says he feels for Keith Shepherd, who gave up two three-run homers in a span of four hitters Sunday. "You've got to give him this -- the guy takes the ball," Malone said. "He takes the ball, and a lot of guys wouldn't."
