Brewers update

The Brewers sent slugger Greg Vaughn to San Diego last week and it's unlikely anyone can pick up the slack. Vaughn's 31 AL home runs are eight more than any other Brewer. Vaughn also led the team with 95 RBIs, 16 more than John Jaha. The Brewers are 12 games behind the division-leading Cleveland Indians and their wild-card hopes are fading fast. They won 17 of 28 games in June, but are three games below .500 since then. Although Vaughn will be missed, three Brewers are hitting for high average. Dave Nilsson is hitting .355, Jeff Cirillo .335 and Kevin Seitzer .328. The Brewers took a chance on former Oriole McDonald and he has become the ace of the staff, winning 10 games (tied for the club lead). McDonald has walked just 43 batters in 151 innings this year. Karl is the Brewers' other 10-game winner. Closer Mike Fetters has 20 saves and recently moved to third place on the team's all-time save list.
