Officials continuing inquiry into firebombing of house

The deputy state fire marshal is still investigating the firebombing of an Ellicott City house early Sunday, which caused $1,500 in damage but no injuries.

Police said someone tossed two Molotov cocktails at the home of Sherri Prendergast and Craig Landauer in the 4200 block of Bright Bay Way about 4 a.m. Sunday. The devices bounced off a first-floor window screen and burned themselves out, fire officials said.

A 20-year-old daughter, Tara Prendergast, was at home with several friends when the incident occurred.

Susan Siegel, who lives next door, said she had been awakened by noise from the house earlier in the evening, but did not think anything unusual was going on.

"I thought someone had accidentally set the curtains on fire or something," she said. "This is not the type of thing we're used to having."

Officials said the firebombing was the first such incident reported in Howard County this year.
