Sea Dogs cruise past Baysox, 9-4

August 04, 1996|By Kent Baker

BOWIE -- Dave Berg knocked in four runs with two doubles and the Portland Sea Dogs built an early eight-run lead to coast to a 9-4 Double-A Eastern League victory over the Bowie Baysox last night at Prince George's Stadium.

The defeat snapped a three-game winning streak by the Baysox (42-70) and prevented them from tying their longest skein of the season.

Melvin Rosario hit his first homer for Bowie's first run but two subsequent rallies in the fifth and seventh innings weren't as productive as they were promising and the Baysox never made a game of it.

Andy Larkin (2-0) got the victory with late help from from Baysox pitcher Doug Harris, who was released May 27. Rocco Cafaro (4-8) absorbed his seventh loss in eight decisions since June 16.
