Blue's 70 leads city amateur tourney Five publinx players tied for second at 74

Two-time champion Henry Blue parlayed a solid game with home-course knowledge for a 2-under-par 34-3670, and a four-stroke lead halfway through the 42nd annual Baltimore City Amateur championship at Green Spring Valley Hunt Club.

Blue, an eight-time club champion since 1978, including three of the last four years, had four birdies -- three from two feet or less and a 15-footer -- and two bogeys where he missed greens.

There was a five-way jam at 74 among publinx players Serge Hogg, Charlie Narciso, and Drew Forrester, all from Mount Pleasant Golf Course, plus Sparrows Point CC members Tom Lynn and Rick Riddle.

Adrian Druzgala was alone at 75. With the 47 starters cut to the tTC low 30 and ties, it took a score of 81, and 31 will play the last round.

Each player had to meet certain entry requirements. Thus Blue ** and Riddle, a two handicapper and current match play titlist at Sparrows Point, got in via their club play, while Hogg and Lynn were 1-2 in last year's Maryland Amateur Stroke Play event.

Forrester qualified as a member of last year's publinx Challenge Cup team, and Narciso has won a publinx title each of the last five years.
