Jazz up meetings: If your staff is falling asleep during meetings, there are ways to perk things up, says Ava S. Butler, author of "Team Think," a book about running better meetings. Besides structuring the meeting in an organized and interesting fashion, creating a more pleasant atmosphere will help, Butler says. Among her suggestions: Make the meeting room attractive, with plants and pictures. Be sure the people at the meeting can control the temperature in the room. Provide food and beverages -- but not the kinds that will supply a quick sugar high followed by a long crash. And if it's going to be a long meeting, why not provide some toys like pens and doodle paper or Play-Doh for people who get the fidgets.
