Man gets two-year sentence in rape

August 02, 1996

A Sykesville man who pleaded guilty in May to raping a Westminster woman was sentenced yesterday in Carroll County Circuit Court to two years in the county jail.

As part of a plea bargain, Anthony W. Myers, 34, of the 5700 block of Hodges Road was given a five-year prison sentence with three years suspended.

Upon his release, Myers will serve five years of probation.

Other related charges and drug charges were dismissed.

Court records showed that Myers was invited into the home of the woman, who knew him only as "Tony," about 10 p.m. Dec. 23, 1994.

After talking, the woman said he began to rape her and when she protested, he tossed a $50 bill at her.

The woman, who is not being identified to protect her privacy, said Myers raped her, took the money and left.

Police found Myers about 4 a.m. the next day in the 300 block of E. Main St.
