Two men smashed windows to break into five cars and trucks parked at Governors Plaza Shopping Center early Tuesday and steal more than $1,700 worth of cellular phones, tools and other items, county police said.

Charles D. Russel of Pasadena called police to the shopping center in the 6600 block of Ritchie Highway shortly before 7 a.m. after he saw two men breaking into cars.

The culprits ransacked the cars and took a gym bag, wallet, cellular phone and pager, all valued at $180, from a 1987 Toyota Supra; cash, cellular phone, tools and other items valued at $1,245, from a 1991 Ford pick-up; and eyeglasses, a briefcase and cellular phone, together valued at $300, from a 1988 Toyota Celica.
