TeleSpectrum Inc., the Annapolis telemarketing company in the midst of a growth spurt, said it is opening a new location in Maryland -- its second in the past year.

To meet rising demand, the company signed a 10-year lease for 15,000 square feet of office space in Woodlawn's Meadows Business Park, said John Graham, leasing director for Emmes Realty Co., the company that owns the park.

TeleSpectrum has also paid Emmes to reserve another 15,000 )) square feet should it decide to expand further this year, Graham said. In addition, TeleSpectrum said it is opening another, smaller office in King of Prussia, Pa.

The company chose the Woodlawn location, at 6340 Security Blvd., because Emmes had the space and the speed to accommodate it, Graham said.

In June, TeleSpectrum signed the lease within two days of seeing the property, and Emmes did the necessary renovations within a month, he said.

The space at Meadows was also less expensive than it would have been in places like Towson, where office space costs about $18 per square foot, Graham said.

Space at Meadows sells for around $13.50 per square foot, he said.

TeleSpectrum's two new offices add 160 workstations for the company's operators, who answer customer service calls for Fortune 500 companies. The offices also have the capacity to expand by another 150 stations, TeleSpectrum said.

And while the company is hiring for both locations, it said the 310 potential workstations may not translate into 310 jobs. Both offices are scheduled to open in mid-August.

Three months ago, TeleSpectrum opened a Linthicum office, at 839 Elkridge Landing Road, in addition to its Annapolis headquarters, at 190 Admiral Cochrane Drive. The 11-year-old company had $11.9 million in revenue last year.
