Contest to welcome Ravens won by barber Cal Bloom

Cal Bloom's Barber Shoppe in the Winchester Exchange Building on East Main Street won the Greater Westminster Development Corp.'s Welcome Ravens Window Contest.

Owner Cal Bloom will receive two tickets to a Baltimore Ravens home game in Baltimore.

Twenty-eight businesses entered the contest to welcome the Ravens and their fans to Westminster for the team's summer training camp.

Honorable mentions for creativity went to Ain't That A Frame, Ceilidh Gifts & Goods, Stewart N. Dutterer Flower Shop and Forget-Me-Not. Each will receive a year's membership on the Carroll County Arts Council.

Honorable mention for team spirit went to AAA Maryland, pTC Flowers by Evelyn and the Main Street Bake Shoppe. Each will receive a month's family membership to the city's family center.


Reese: Firefighters from Gamber assisted Reese at 7: 34 a.m. Tuesday, responding for a house fire in the 1100 block of Deer Park Road. Units were out 30 minutes.

Pleasant Valley: Firefighters responded at 3: 19 p.m. Tuesday for burning electrical wires in the 1300 block of Green Meadow Lane. Units were out one hour and 30 minutes.

Westminster: Firefighters from Reese assisted Westminster at 1: 27 a.m. yesterday, responding to a fire alarm in the 400 block of Hahn Road. Units were out 13 minutes.
