Jazz festival Aug. 16-17 at Ellicott Theatre

The East Coast Jazz Network Inc. will sponsor the Historic Ellicott City Festival of Jazz at 7 p.m. Aug. 16 and 17 at the Ellicott Theatre, 8217 Main St.

The festival will have Gene Smith, formerly with the Mills Brothers; Ruby Glover; the Khan Jamal Trio of Philadelphia; and Mel Spears, who will open the festival with a tribute to Al Sanders, the late television broadcaster and jazz aficionado.

Other performers include Audra Lomax and the Benjamin Sands Band.

Ellicott City: 3100 block of Rogers Ave.: Someone entered the shed attached to Oertel-Engles Construction by prying open window and breaking the lock between 6 p.m. July 19 and 3 p.m. July 22. A pressure washer was taken.
