Call for humorous videos goes unheeded

Maybe there's nothing funny happening in Howard County. Or maybe no one is capturing it on videotape.

Whatever the case, a local cable television station is having an extremely hard time getting material for a Howard County funniest home video show it hopes to launch. To date, no videos have come in -- despite one month of trying to get the word out.

"This is like pulling teeth," said Rebecca Jessop, an associate producer for Cable Eight, a local cable station connected with Howard Community College.

Station officials, who have been advertising in neighborhood newsletters and on their own station, say they need 25 videos to start the program, called "You Saw Me Doing What? Howard County's Funniest Videos."

They say they will collect videos through the end of the year.

Prizes will be awarded for the best videos.

Howard County residents are encouraged to send their videos to Cable Eight, Howard Community College, Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia 21044.

Contestants should include their name, address and telephone number on the videotapes.
