A head-on collision in western Howard County early yesterday sent two Pennsylvania teen-agers and one Maryland teen-ager to the hospital with serious injuries, Howard County police said.

Courtney Sharp and Melissa McGee, both 16, of York, Pa., were traveling north on Route 97 near Longfield Road about 5: 45 a.m. when their 1988 Escort crossed the center line and collided with another 1988 Ford Escort driven by 19-year-old Jeremy Allen of Marriottsville, police said.

All three were taken to Maryland Shock and Trauma Center. Sharp was listed in critical condition yesterday; McGee in serious but stable condition; and Allen in critical but stable condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police do not know why the car crossed the center line.
