Indians update

Defending AL champion Cleveland remains among the American League's top teams, but the Indians are not exactly the juggernaut they were last season. Jose Mesa is no longer automatically closing games, and, yes, Eddie Murray is gone. But Nagy and Hershiser are still two of the toughest pitchers in the AL, and the Indians' staff is first in the league in team ERA and shutouts. Cleveland's offense -- fourth in team average, fifth in home runs and fifth in RBIs -- has slipped from last year, but Albert Belle is putting up fearsome statistics again. He is second in the league with 32 homers and third with 91 RBIs. Leadoff man Kenny Lofton is tied for first with 45 steals, but overall there aren't that many Indians among the league leaders in offensive categories.
