Donor agency lands David's Bridal account

W. B. Donor & Co. of Baltimore said yesterday that it has been awarded a multimillion-dollar media planning/buying account by David's Bridal, the nation's largest bridal retailer.

Donor said it competed against three New York media buying firms for the Ardmore, Pa.-based retailer's business.

Although Donor has landed bigger accounts in the past, the fact that the full-service advertising agency beat out three media-buying specialists is significant, said David Robinson, the firm's senior vice president and media director.

FOR THE RECORD - CORRECTION

The account involves planning where to place ads and getting them placed, said Robinson, adding that David's Bridal does its own creative work.

Robinson attributed Donor's success to "our senior level broadcast negotiators" and "our clout in all of the markets where David's Bridal has stores." David's Bridal has 42 stores in 29 markets.

Donor, which has offices throughout the United States and in London, Montreal and Toronto, estimates its 1996 billings at more than $500 million.

Hamelin & Associates of Philadelphia had handled the David's Bridal account.
