Pair seized on drug, assault counts

July 23, 1996

County police arrested two Glen Burnie men Friday on drug and assault charges after an officer saw them drinking alcohol on a public street.

Gerald Wallace, 21, of the first block of Phyllis Drive was charged with possession and possession with intent to distribute marijuana, resisting arrest and assault and battery. Donjell Harris, 21, of the 8000 block of Harris Court was charged with having an open container of alcohol in public.

Police said officers were patrolling Hiddenbrook Drive in Glen Burnie about 7: 30 p.m. when they saw a man standing beside a 1986 Honda Accord drinking beer with the driver.

When police approached, the man standing outside the car threw the beer bottle to the ground and ran away, police said. Officers chased the man to the laundry room of an apartment in the 400 block of Hiddenbrook Drive and arrested him after a brief struggle.

Police searched the man and found an ounce of what later tested positive for marijuana, and they seized $166 from him, believing the money was drug proceeds, police said.

The driver of the car also was arrested.
