25 years ago (week of July 18-24, 1971):

A proposed bill to control the size and location of signs and billboards in Howard County was opposed by sign-makers and business people at a public session of the County Council. The purpose of the bill was to prevent "too many signs and cluttered highways."

50 years ago (week of July 14-20, 1946):

A Japanese beetle infestation is reported to be the heaviest since their first appearance in the county 10 years ago. Farmers and gardeners are reporting serious damage to fruit and other crops.
