City police are investigating two unrelated homicides that occurred within an hour and a half of each other yesterday and are seeking the public's help to identify suspects.

Samuel L. Leggette Jr., 20, of the 500 block of Beaumont Ave. was involved in a dispute with at least three other men at 5: 50 p.m. in the 5100 block of York Road in Govans when one of the men pulled a handgun and shot him several times.

Leggette was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

In the second slaying, witnesses told police that Marty Ronald Watkins, 19, of the 800 block of W. Fayette St. was walking down an alley near his home about 4: 30 p.m. when someone called to him.

When Watkins stopped to acknowledge the person, he was shot at least once, police said.

Watkins stumbled several feet before entering the back yard of his house, where he fell to the ground, police said. He was taken by ambulance to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he died a short time later.

Anyone with information about either slaying is urged to call the city homicide squad at 396-2100.
