Glen Burnie man wins award for work with MARC

July 15, 1996

Glen Burnie resident John Herson has received an Award of Excellence from the state Mass Transit Administration for helping make sure MARC trains run smoothly.

An operations clerk for the past two years, Herson monitors evening rush-hour service on MARC's Penn, Camden and Brunswick lines. After determining the cause of a delay, he relays the information to colleagues who make a station announcement -- a job he sometimes performs himself.

A native of California, Herson joined the Maryland Rail Commuter service three years ago as a secretary from a temporary agency. He and his wife have lived in Glen Burnie five years.

Herson also serves in the Air Force at Fort Meade.
