Pilot killed in Carroll County plane crash

A 33-year-old pilot who had been performing acrobatic maneuvers in a small plane was killed last night when the plane crashed into a Carroll County field, state police said.

John F. Franklin of Union Bridge was flying alone in the ultralight plane when it plunged into a field just north of Mount Airy at 7: 45 p.m., said Sgt. Brenda Tharp of the Westminster barracks.

Franklin was dead at the scene of the crash, near Roop Road and Kimberly Drive.
