Man's screams thwart attempt to rob him

July 12, 1996

A 61-year-old Annapolis man thwarted a robbery attempt Tuesday by screaming at a man who was trying to steal money, county police said. The Annapolis man was depositing money at a Parole bank.

Lawrence D. Hall told police he had gone to the Citizens Bank of Maryland branch in the 2100 block of Generals Highway shortly after 10 p.m. to make a deposit from his job at the Deck the Walls store in Annapolis Mall when a man jumped at him from the west side of the building and demanded money.

Hall said he screamed at the man, who ran behind the bank toward Sam's Club empty-handed, police said. No one was injured, and no money was taken, police said.
