Somerville named head of Md. CPA association

Scott R. Somerville was named president yesterday of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants Inc., replacing Jacob J. Cohen, who remains on the executive committee.

The president of the 9,500-member voluntary association serves a one-year term.

Somerville is currently partner and head of Arthur Andersen LLP's tax division in Baltimore, where he consults for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maryland and the Helix Health System. He will remain at the firm while serving as MACPA president. He is also president of Associated Catholic Charities.

Separately, MACPA also elected its 1996-1997 board of directors. In addition to Somerville and Cohen, the executive committee includes Terry Hancock, M. Christine Stewart and F. Carter Heim. Board members include Joseph M. Kissell, Steve J. Ochse, Carol I. Katz, Nancy J. McGinness, Charles M. Famula, Melvin R. Hurley, Alicia J. Foster and E. Barry Rice.

The association also named the officers of its central Maryland chapter. They are: Diana K. Hester, Raymond J. Castaldi, John T. Wilke, William D. Savitsky and Mitch Halbrich.
