Reminder for Hampstead to keep lawns mowed

Officials of the town of Hampstead remind residents and businesses of a town requirement to keep lawns mowed.

Chapter 47 of the Hampstead Code stipulates that no owner or occupant of property within corporate limits should permit weeds or grass higher than 12 inches.

If the person does not comply, seven days will be allowed to do so.

After that, penalties will be charged to the owner or occupant.

The town also will have the grass mowed at the owner's expense.

Hampstead: Firefighters responded at 10: 19 a.m. Thursday to a report of smoke in the basement of a building in the 1100 block of S. Main St. Units were out 12 minutes.
