Red Sox update Red Sox statistics

The Red Sox are proving that sluggers alone cannot keep a team in the pennant chase. Their inability to pitch or catch consistently has put the team at a crossroads. General manager Dan Duquette is pondering how to rebuild the club and which of his veterans to retain. There are a few no-brainers. Mo Vaughn is making a run at his second straight Most Valuable Player award with a .352 average, 24 home runs and 73 RBIs. Jose Canseco started the season slowly but hit .338 with 10 homers and 28 RBIs in June. Tim Naehring is hitting .329. But hitting isn't the problem in Boston. The team ERA (5.49) is third worst in the league, and only the Red Sox and Orioles have yet to throw a shutout. The Sox have 71 errors as well, second worst in the league. Mike Stanton has been the only consistent Red Sox reliever, and closer Heathcliff Slocumb has pitched his way in and out of that role. Roger Clemens is leading the league in strikeouts, but a lack of run support has hurt him.
