Philadelphia celebrations

Beginning at 11 a.m. today, young descendants of the signers of the Declaration of Independence will touch the Liberty Bell simultaneously, beginning a bell-ringing from the Centennial Bell Independence Hall Tower in Philadelphia that will be carried out in every state in the nation.

The celebration continues at 6 p.m. with "America Starts Here," a parade that ends at the Philadelphia Art Museum, where Patti LaBelle will perform on the grounds at 8 p.m. A fireworks display choreographed to music will follow. Events are part of the Sunoco Welcome America!, an extravaganza of programs and musical entertainment that continues through July 9 and includes the Pinnacle All-Star Fanfest, a baseball theme park set up at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, tomorrow through Tuesday.

For a complete schedule of events during the Philadelphia celebration, call (800) 770-5883. For a parade and fireworks today, along with great food and entertainment, attend the Bay Country Festival at Sailwinds Park in Cambridge on the Eastern Shore. Also featured at the annual event, which runs through Saturday, is a carnival, with volleyball and canoe jousting, a crab-picking contest, horseshoe pitching and bingo. Festivities conclude Saturday with a concert by the Commodores beginning at 7 p.m.

A pass for $8 includes daily admission to the festival and the concert. Call (800) 522-TOUR.
